“Great design doesn’t come from just one big thing.
It’s a lot of small details, done well and working together.
I love capturing that in my photography.”
I began my architectural photography business because it combines my passion for both architecture and photography. They both require keen observation, attention to detail, and creativity; skills I have sharpened over the years as a photographer, architect and custom home builder.
Born and raised in Saskatoon, my parents gave me my first camera when I was twelve years old and I was hooked. My father was a fisheries biologist, so our family spent most of our summers camping around Saskatchewan and it was here that I developed my love for wilderness landscape and their hidden treasures. My father was also an experienced carpenter and when he wasn’t working, he was building and renovating the homes we lived in. Watching him work led to my fascination with building design and construction.
This fascination eventually led me to Carleton University in Ottawa where I completed my Bachelor of Architecture. While working on my degree I spent as much time photographing buildings as designing them. You would often find me in the university’s photo lab developing large prints shot with large format view camera. As my photography progressed, I expanded into urban landscape photography, exploring different building shapes and structure through black and white photography.
After 20 years as a successful architect, I cofounded Livello Projects Inc., where we built and renovated many high-end homes in Calgary. I again put my camera to work and photographed the finished projects for our marketing materials and web site.
I have been taking photographs now for over forty years. Whether it is architecture, landscape, urban or sports, I am drawn to capturing interesting, in the moment images that tell the story of where I am. With my lifelong passion for photography, my twenty-seven years of experience in architecture and home building, and the latest digital gear (my view camera is retired!), I know I can capture your vision. I look forward to working with you.
Thank you!
